2023 Women in Aquaculture Scholarship Recipient

We are excited to announce the recipient of the 2023 Women in Aquaculture Scholarship: Anagha Raju from India!

She is currently pursuing a PhD in Aquaculture with a focus on Mini Backyard Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (MBRAS) at the University of Kerala. Her research aims to standardize Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) to make it more affordable and accessible for local communities.

“I chose to study an aquaculture-related discipline due to my strong connection to Alappuzha, my homeland in the coastal state of Kerala," she says.

"Alappuzha is known for its natural beauty and thriving fishing industry. While Kerala boasts vast coastal areas; people in rural, hilly, and water-scarce areas rely on neighboring states for fish, which are often chemically preserved, leading to health issues.

The escalating reports of malnutrition among children and women and the associated health risks are alarming and demand immediate attention. Through education, training, and support, I aim to improve their socioeconomic status and encourage their active participation in the industry's growth.”

"When reviewing Anagha’s application, I was truly impressed by her background and experience! It is an incredible honor for Kvarøy Arctic to support her journey, especially as she is coming from a country that is making remarkable strides in solving food challenges through aquaculture advancement”, said Alf-Goran Knutsen, CEO at Kvarøy Arctic.

As we value forward-thinking product innovation, we are now in our fourth year of awarding a scholarship to a passionate individual whose work is dedicated to the future of sustainable aquaculture.

This year, Kvarøy Arctic received an overwhelming response from more than 50 countries around the world. "We are elated to see the recognition our scholarship is receiving, as achieving gender equality and empowerment for women in aquaculture is a core passion for us at Kvarøy Arctic," says Jennifer Bushman, Chief Marketing Officer.
